So sad

I HATE writing bad reviews ,but this is just a completely awful app that I was originally so excited about! I love my play stations and hold a special place in my heart for Sony but now it is broken like this junky app. It NEVER connects for receiver control. Always tells me Goto home screen and connect Bluetooth but it is already connected because I can play songs and it says connected to Jason iPhone, yet will not allow any other function

Wish list

It is getting better and it is indeed much better when it was a while ago but here is my wish list. Volume control - can it be done by phones volume button? Return to where it was - whenever opening the app while playing if i hit back button it brings me to the root of the folder. Can it remember where i was before i reopen the app? Favorite function or creating play list on the app. Thanks,

Dont buy a Sony radio if it wants you to install songpal

The only thing this app is good for is setting your eq settings, total novelty. it will allow you to use the songpal app to open other apps on your phone like Spotify, Pandora etc. But heres the thing you can open those apps by yourself, in less clicks, while youre driving… Heres the big reason why you shouldnt use songpal. If you use songpal to open up other music apps, you will lose the ability to have the apps put track info onto the display, so if you use songpal your radio will show "Spotify" or "Pandora" instead of "track name/artist". Which is absolutely retarded. if you just use the BT audio feature of the radio then you can have this without the the songpal app. but heres the clincher, you will be spammed with on screen messages everytime you open up your phone asking you to install it open songpal… huge mistake Sony!

Rarely works

The app is great the 1 time out of 10 that it works. The only way to get it to work usually is to un-pair the speaker, then re-pair it using the button on the remote. Then it only works until my phone sleeps, at which point I have to start the process all over. Having to use the speaker remote every time I want to use my phone as a remote defeats the purpose. The app is a great concept poorly executed.

POS

Waste of time. Doesnt work. Need help connecting? Dont bother using this app.

Good intentions but seriously flawed...

This app makes changing settings on my Sony Mex-n5100bt much easier BUT FIX THE SONG PAL POP UP. This should be disabled by default on my iPhone (regardless if you have the app installed or not). And If you could make an update for the unit so it doesnt ask for the SongPal app thatd be great (basically less bugging us about this buggy app). And if possible add the ability to update your units through the App instead of just USB. MOST IMPORTANTLY ADD MORE TESTING TIME TO YOUR PRODUCTS BEFORE RELEASE. Less bugs the better... Obviously. Good luck!

Spam in disguise

Bypasses phone privacy options and follows you around. Takes over radio display if phone is in vehicle. Pain in the butt. Requires more attention than my ex. Bye bye!

Rarely works

App is horrible, rarely works and updates do not help. Dont waste your time downloading.

App is a little slow and I cant rename the Bluetooth device

I want to be able and rename my Bluetooth enabled sound system from Sony!

Used to work

This app was great. It used to control my stereo with ease. I use it to control streaming to my outside speakers. At least I did before the recent updates. This app has become worthless. Now I have to use a combination of this app and AudioRemote to control streaming to my speakers. And they only work about a quarter of the time. Seriously considering replacing my receiver with a different brand just to get away from this app. Every time I change the station or do anything on the app, it turns the speakers in zone 1 back on. Hate having to turn them off manually every time I change the station on Pandora. Loses network connectivity and cant find the receiver all the time. Even though the receiver is obviously connected and streaming Pandora. Wish I had never updated the app. It worked great, now it stinks.

Glad I tested this app at a shop before buying Sony

I was looking to do an iPad install in my cars dash and use this head unit behind the iPad and then use the iPad as my interface for changing sources, using the radio, etc. I knew from the start this app was crap according to everyone else but I was excited to find an installer that had a compatible head unit installed on their demo board so I could download this app on my iPad and test before buying. Setup is not very easy as it kept telling me to turn on WiFi but really it only uses Bluetooth. Once I got the Bluetooth paired it started working and I was able to change between radio and CD and Aux. But once you leave the app to play your own music like Pandora or Spotify thats when the problems start. Once you leave the Song pal app and come back it has to reconnect with the head unit which takes about 30 seconds. Sometimes it worked ok but most of the time it would just hang. The installer was able to fix it by pushing buttons on the head unit to get it back into app mode, but in my setup I wont have access to the head unit unless I took my whole dash apart. Forget that! This app is too buggy and Ive decided not to go with Sony for my project. The problem is I cant find any alternatives. Most head units these days want you to take content from you phone and use it on the head unit. I want to go the other way, using my phone to control the head unit.

Not happy with the app, really app is developed by Sony?

When I want to play music from network share, able to play music which is good but when I go back to different app and come back to this app selection is gone and again comes to home screen and again need to walk though where I wanted to go and play music. When I come back to the app from different app or lock phone and unlock phone I wanted to be where I was before. Always goes to home screen and irritating.

Just Terrible

Simply awful app. If it does find my soundbar, it just sits there and spins the loading bar forever on a blank screen. 10% of the time I can get past that, but then it just spins a wheel while I can see my input options. I would say the app works maybe 1 out of 25 times. Time to take a look at the performance reviews for the "app guy" at Sony, it seems like hes been drinking on the job.

Needs serious improvement!

This App simply doesn’t work. Sony is advertising this app to be able to group speakers as a whole home system and it simply does not work. 1 out of 10 times you try to group speakers it works for a whole 60 seconds before the speakers cut out and turn off. This App is terrible; false advertisement for a product line. ~ boo.

Why no improvement yet ?

I was impressed by Sonys intentions but app developers did not put enough effort into this. App takes long time to launch. So frequently u have to make Bluetooth connection manually. Dont understand why these issues are not fixed yet. Expect better from Sony

Pretty awful

This app is a mess. Its interface is poorly outdated and when you play music on apps like Pandora it LOCKS YOU OUT OF THE APP. Just a big blank screen that says Pandora. Oh and the handy sparkling "connected" arrows. Thanks for that uselessness. Just let us see the Pandora app as is. We dont need a connected screen Sony. We need a simple design to access WHEN WERE DRIVING!

My first review ever - its that bad

This is my first ever review of an app and it saddens me that it has to be such a bad one. I dont write this only to say negative things about the app but to hopefully convince the developers to revisit what is going on. Its sometimes connect to my Sony STR-DN860 and it sometimes does not. It says that its connected and recognizes that the amp is there but thats pretty much where it ends. Resetting the app doesnt do anything, refreshing the App doesnt do anything… I literally have to delete the app and re-download it for it to finally work again! The mute button clearly does not function and would often cause everything else to stop working interestingly enough. Or I would hit the mute button nothing would happen and then I would refresh the app and all of the sudden my system would mute. Then I could never get it out of mute once it was refreshed! So I decided to stop using the mute button in hopes that it was just that bug. Unfortunately it still is extremely glitchy and temperamental. When the different components selections werent working or when the volume control wasnt working I would use the refresh icon. It then would delete all of the options for each input except for "my music" and some of the other local options. I installed the Amazon prime option on this app and it would work once or twice and then it would stop. I would have to delete this app to have it reconnect again. Every time I would tap on the Amazon prime app it would not open the AP app. I think the concept of the app is great but clearly either the app is not pushing data correctly or the receiver is not receiving it correctly. I tend to think its the app sense when I delete the app and reinstall it it seems to work for a while… a very short while... but still seems to refresh. I was really excited about buying this amp for the purpose of using this app. Ive been extremely disappointed unfortunately!

Bad bad

Never works properly,

Updated review. App is awful

It connects easy, but thats it. Sound settings dont save, it forces you to use the receiver for Pandora control instead of your phone, actually blacks out the screen. Its a glitch that makes the notification screen stop working.

Sony - King of Vaporware

This is still a POS. Its obvious sony spent maybe $10 to create an app that took 1 minute to think about a produce. This is beyond growing pains with a slow start. After a year or more its still APOS. Only works on iphone; no iPad or mini. Sony should have just expanded the Network Audio Remote, at least that works. Too bad they dumped the HomeShare speakers and support after only about two years on market. The manager and maketing person responsible for this S should be fired or limited to clean bathrooms. I have no idea why Sony keep listing it as a feature for new speakers and receivers, its useless. This used to support a lot of Sony products, now it only support stuff that dont exist. Sony should change their name to Fony. Good thing I can use some other app.
